A Quantum Bond Sale

Now that most of us have had a chance to see the new Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace‘, maybe it’s time to catch up on 007’s previous exploits. If you have yet to purchase the Ultimate Edition James Bond DVD’s, you may be interested in our sale of the Region 1 two-disc versions. Until recently the individual films have not been available on 2-disc DVD sets in the US, you could only buy them in sets of five. The ones that are now on sale, from the likes of Amazon etc., have new, and I believe, inferior cover designs. If you’d like to add or complete your Bond DVD collection, we have the original cover designs on sale for only $9.99 each. Or you can buy the complete box set of 21 films for only $149.99. These are the 2 disc versions, with all of the special features and documentaries on disc 2.
We have also just listed a wonderful set of all 22 James Bond movie posters. Each one measure 24″ x 36″ and are recent reprints of various designs. Only $99.99 for all 22! If you are interested in individual titles, please let us know as we may have them available for sale soon.
Just in time for Christmas comes the Ultimate James Bond Monopoly game. This differs from the version that was released a few years ago by being customizable, with re-usable stickers representing 50 Bond locations. The tokens are also different, so even if you own the 2006 release of this famous board game, be sure to get this new version. Only $39.99 while stocks last.
Also, still proving very popular, are the Franklin Mint Collectible ‘Sean Connery as James Bond’ plates. Long since out of production, a set recently sold for over $500 on eBay. However, we’re not greedy, we have them available from $39.99 each.
We still have lots of books, from the classic novels by Ian Fleming to books about the history of the movies. Most are no longer in print, and some are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Add them to your Christmas list, or put one in your own Xmas stocking.

Territorial Days Parade

Although this particular edition of ‘Devil May Care’ has never been read, I did purchase a copy of the UK edition a few weeks ago, here are my thoughts (for what they are worth).
Faulks manages to bring the writing style of Fleming back from the Sixties, without it being too much of a pastiche. The story moves along at a brisk pace, although never quite living up to the ‘Fleming sweep’. The characters were interesting, with a twist to one that was a bit of a surprise. I thought the tennis match worked much better than I expected when I first heard about it, very much in the style of the great battles on the golf course or around the casino tables that Fleming thrilled us with. The appearance of the ‘Caspian Sea Monster’ was inspired, a machine I always thought belonged in Bond’s universe more than our own. Overall I thought it a very enjoyable read, a welcome return of the Adult Bond thriller. Hopefully more Bond novels will be appearing in bookshops before too long.

The Fleming Effect

or ‘How I came to love Ian Fleming, James Bond and John Barry.’
I’m not sure of the exact date, but it was likely in the late 1960’s that I was first transported into the thrilling world of Ian Fleming. His 6th novel, ‘Dr. No’, was offered to me for a few pennies by my cousin Ray, who purloined it from his Granddad. This slightly tattered blue paperback, with its intriguing spider’s web cover, soon became my favourite book, easily surpassing Enid Blyton’s ‘Famous Five’ adventures and Blue Peter annuals. The heady mixture (for a nine year old at least) of thrills, adventure, exotic locations and girls stirred something inside me, and the search was on for more of the same. The inside provided a list of other James Bond Thrillers, and over the next few years I hunted them all down.
My second Bond book turned up one day whilst I was recovering from a bout of the measles. My Mum bought ‘Live and Let Die’ to me as I lay in bed, and all of a sudden I felt a whole lot better. This wonderful gift seemed to proclaim that I was no longer my Mummy’s little boy, but a young man, authorised to read these ‘racy’ adult thrillers, full of violent deaths and pert breasts. The cover was the poster art for the film starring Roger Moore, and by this time I was already familiar with the James Bond films. I saw my first, ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, in early 1970, having been taken to our local Regal cinema in Edmonton, North London by my parents. For days after I could be found hard at work designing go-karts loaded with machine guns and grenade launchers. That would impress the local gang from nearby Crescent Avenue, I thought.
The rest were bought from various bookshops in London, or during annual holidays to South Coast seaside resorts such as Brighton (where I later learnt Ian Fleming had recuperated after his penultimate heart attack). These books added to my mounting James Bond Collection, which included Corgi’s gold Aston Martin DB5, which has long since lost it’s box and hapless passenger. One of the first LP’s (remember those, made of vinyl?) I ever bought was the ‘Special 10th 
Anniversary Edition: James Bond Collection’ containing a selection of music from ‘Doctor No’ to ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. From an early age, John Barry was much more to my musical tastes than the Beatles or Rolling Stones. Mum would often shout up to me ‘shut up go to sleep’ as I lay in my bed humming the Bond themes out loud. When the Bond films started to appear on ITV back in the seventies, I would record the audio on my cassette recorder, and cut out the movie descriptions from the Radio and TV Times listing magazines. How I longed for a video recorder in those pre-VHS days.
It was in the early 1980’s that I discovered the James Bond British Fan Club, run by its founder Ross Hendry. Their club magazine ‘007’ was on a shelf at ‘Forbidden Planet’ in London’s West End as I perused the store for Bond books and other collectibles. It had George Lazenby on the cover, so I bought it and on the 
way home read it from cover to cover. A few days later, my cheque was in the post and I became a member. That started the next frantic phase of collecting 007. Books, magazines, toy vehicles, a few posters and other miscellaneous items found their way to my small, cramped bedroom and into my Bond Collection.
Since then I’ve continued in my quest for all things James Bond, reading all of the continuation novels by Amis, Gardner and Benson, and going to the cinema to see Lazenby, Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig perform as Bond. I had the very good fortune to attend filming of two of Brosnan’s 007 movies ‘The World Is Not Enough’ and ‘Die Another Day’, and got to meet many of the unsung heroes of the Bond movies, the fearless men and women of the action unit and stunt team. I was alongside the red carpet as the stars walked
to the World Premiere of ‘Die Another Day’ at the Royal Albert Hall. It was through my work shooting stills as a freelance photographer on ‘TWINE’ that I first came into contact with a female Bond fan from the United States. Her name was Val, and over the next 2 years we became very good friends. The Fleming Effect finally took hold of us both, and in the summer of 2002 we became man and wife. We now live happily together in the Treasure State of Montana, where we jointly run Bondpix Freelance Photography. So you could say that, thanks to Ian Fleming and his fictional alter ego James Bond, I am now living the ‘soft life’, happy and content half a world away from my roots.

Website design

Apart from operating Bondpix Freelance Photography, designing and updating the Bondpix website and new online store, I have recently started re-designing the website for the local Powell County Chamber of Commerce website, here in Deer Lodge Montana. The Chamber represents local businesses and helps promote our county for business and tourist visitors. You can see the website at Powell County Chamber of Commerce. A lot more work is yet to be done over the coming months.
I also work for the local Powell County Museum & Arts Foundation, which runs the Old Montana Prison complex. The foundation helps support the local community in many ways, not least in running the Museums in and around the old Territorial Prison. Apart from the old prison buildings, the complex houses the Montana Auto Museum, Yesterday’s Playthings (toy and doll museum), Frontier Montana (Western and firearm museum), Powell County Museum and Cottonwood City (old historical buildings, including a working blacksmith). I am employed as an online store clerk, and run their Ebay store as well as their new online gift shop at www.pcmaf.org/shop. My wife Valerie is the main gift shop clerk in the Visitors Center.
I also help design and layout the Museums Visitors Guide and other publications and flyer’s, and designed their new logo. I also just started running the Museums new online blog
The Museum is a fascinating place to work and visit. The Old Prison is home to a large number of paranormal spirits, from full body apparitions, glowing orbs, strange sounds and voices (EVP), and other inexplicable events. Ghost tours are planed for the coming months, as well as full Paranormal Training courses for those who would like to learn how to identify, and explain, many of the strange happenings.
