HORSE RACING IN MONTANA

The Western Montana Fair, Missoula, August 11th 2004

This was to be my first experience of horse racing in Montana, and this first visit to the Fair was very enjoyable.

We arrived at the fair grounds early which gave us plenty of time to look around at all the exhibits and grab a bite to eat before the racing began.

The Charlie Russell Riders performed before the horse racing began

As race time approached, we found a seat in the grandstand and watched the excellent performance given by the young Charlie Russell Riders. We then went down to the paddock to watch as the horses and riders for the first race paraded around the ring. It is here that you can check the confirmation and appearance of the horses before placing a wager. My wife knew what to look out for, I just stuck with my Grandmothers method of 'third letter R' in the horses name. Guess who got it right most of the time! (Clue: it wasn't me!)
