On our Juneau Wildlife Quest boat trip we had already seen some humpback whales, but now we came across some sea lions on a navigation buoy. About half a dozen were jockeying for position on the small platform, some in the water seemed intent on dislodging their fellow creatures. As they tussled, the platform rocked in the water and the bell tolled. Perhaps they thought that if they rang the bell someone would throw them a fish?

SEA OTTERS

A few days later, whilst on a similar Wildlife Quest, this time in Sitka, we witnessed the unique sight of a 'raft' of sea otters, drifting lazily on the ocean current. These curious little animals, with their expressive 'teddy bear' faces, just laid back in the water and quizzically looked on as we floated past.
